Acid Stained Concrete
A chemical stain that reacts with the concrete to create translucent, mottled color in browns, tans, greens and blues.
- Palette: Earth tones, greens, blues
- Works on: Existing or new concrete
- Typical time: 2 to 4 working days
What it is, and why it works.
Acid stain is different from paint or pigment: a mild acid solution reacts with minerals in cured concrete and leaves permanent, translucent color with natural variations, like marble or aged leather. No two floors are alike, which is exactly the appeal.
Because acid stain is a reaction, it shows every mark in the concrete beneath, from trowel patterns to old cracks, so we inspect the slab and set honest expectations. It works well on existing patios, garages and interior slabs. We neutralize, clean and seal to lock in the color. In Nashville, earthy tan-and-brown blends and teal-green accents are popular.

Acid Stain: common questions
Will acid stain hide cracks?
No. Stain is translucent and can highlight cracks and trowel marks, so we repair what we can first and discuss the rest.
Can I choose the exact color?
Acid stain gives a range, not an exact swatch, because it reacts with each slab differently. Dyes give more control.
