What it is, and why it works.
Ashlar slate is the pattern most people picture when they think of stamped concrete, and for good reason. Rectangular blocks in several sizes lock together like a cut-stone floor, with thin recessed grout lines and a lightly riven surface. It looks formal enough for a front entry and relaxed enough for a poolside patio, and it pairs naturally with brick, stone, siding and stucco.
The pattern is only as good as its craftsmanship. We choose mats with natural variation so blocks never repeat, plan the layout so seams land on the grout lines and add a hand-applied release in a deeper tone to bring out depth. Around Nashville, charcoal-and-tan blends are a favorite because they sit comfortably beside red brick.

What colors work best with ashlar slate?
Warm gray with charcoal release is the most versatile. Tan and brown blends suit warm brick, while cool gray suits modern homes.
